Upload from any scanner or the optional IllumiLib Capture app, and the platform runs Google Cloud Vision Document Text Detection with extraordinary accuracy. Review OCR quality page by page, assign custom page numbering schemes, and download a finished PDF and TXT file built for retrieval-augmented AI tools. Use the output directly with ChatGPT, NotebookLM, or Claude, or feed it into Personal Library, where you put that library to work.

Personal Library is a desktop application that runs on your own computer, working from the PDF and TXT files already on your drive. Load one or more, ask any question in natural language, and answers arrive alongside the actual scanned page images that support them, so you can verify every answer against the primary source yourself. Your books never leave your machine; only portions of the indexed text are sent out to generate an answer.

Listen is a desktop application that runs on your own computer. Point it at a TXT file on your drive: one you downloaded from illumilib.ai, or any other text you own. Choose a voice, set the pauses where you want them, and Listen generates the whole work as a series of MP3 files, then stitches them together seamlessly. The results sound human, not robotic. Listen while commuting, exercising, or simply when your eyes need a rest.
Both apps run on your own computer and call Google's AI services directly with your own API key, so usage is billed by Google to your account rather than to us. Enabling the APIs takes a few minutes. We provide step-by-step video instructions. As Google releases newer models, we update the apps to match.
Personal Library · Google Gemini
Personal Library supports three Gemini models, so you can trade cost against capability. Rates are per million tokens, input and output:
Google's free tier covers the Flash models at limited request rates, which is enough to try the app out. Note that Google may use free-tier traffic to improve its products, so a paid key is the better choice for anything sensitive. Reasoning-heavy questions also bill their thinking tokens at the output rate, which can multiply output volume several times over.
Listen · Google Cloud Text-to-Speech
Listen uses Chirp 3 HD voices at $30 per million characters, with the first million characters each month free. Cheaper voices exist if you want them (Standard and WaveNet run $4 per million, Neural2 $16), but Chirp 3 HD is what makes the narration sound human. A printed page holds roughly 1,800-2,500 characters, so narration is the one place these costs add up:
